BOB BAKER MARIONETTE THEATRE

BOB BAKER MARIONETTE THEATRE

Highland Park, California

First opened by Bob Baker in 1953, the Bob Baker Marionette Theater has become one of Los Angeles' beloved institutions. In 2018, the company decided to bid farewell to their home of over half a century, and seek a venue that would not only provide access to more young people, but would be a place they could customize and settle into over time.

Originally a cinema, the raw space was transformed with a simple truss structure to create the rigging needed to fly backdrops and lighting. The structure also provided significant storage for the marionettes, which must store hanging, to best preserve them.

The real magic of transformation was provided by Bob Baker staff and volunteers, and their endless hours of painting and renovating, creating a vibrant and inviting place for audiences of all ages.

TheatreDNA provided theatre planning and design services for the initial renovation, and is now proudly the official theatre consultant of the Bob Baker Marionette Theatre.

TheatreDNA was also proud to assist the Bob Baker Marionette Theater staff with developing and implementing their Covid-19 protocols as they reopened and restarted performances.
